The transfer hydrogenation of ketones catalyzed by transition metal complexes has attracted much attention. A series of ruthenium(11) complexes bearing 2,6-bis(5,6-dialkyl-1,2,4-triazin-3-yl)pyridine ligands (R-BTPs) were synthesized and characterized by NMR analysis and X-ray diffraction. These ruthenium (II) complexes were applied in the transfer hydrogenation of ketones. Their different catalytic activity were attributed to the alkyl arms on the 2,6-bis(5,6-dialkyl-1,2,4-triazin-3-yl)pyridine. As the length of the alkyl arms rising, the catalytic activities of the complex catalysts decreased. By means of 0.4 mol % catalyst RuCl2(PPh3)(3-methylbutyl-BTP) in refluxing 2-propanol, a variety of ketones were reduced to their corresponding alcohols with >95% conversion over a period of 3 h. A simple, and practical oxidative scission of aromatic olefins to carbonyl compounds using O-2 as the sole oxidant with poly(ethylene glycol) dimethyl ether as a benign solvent has been developed. A wide range of monosubstituted, gem-disubstituted, 1,2-disubstituted, trisubstituted and tetrasubstituted aromatic olefins was successfully converted into the corresponding aldehydes and ketones in excellent yields even with gram-scale reaction. Some control experiments were also conducted to support a possible reaction pathway.

A series of two new mono- and one binuclear m-nitrato bridged copper(II) complexes [Cu(L)(HL)]ClO4 (1), [Cu(HL)(NO3)(H2O)](2)NO3 center dot H2O (2) and [Cu-2(L-2)(mu-NO3)(2)] (3), with an unsymmetrical NNO donor Schiff base (HL) have been synthesized and characterized by elemental analysis, FTIR, CV, UV-vis and EPR spectroscopy. Their molecular structures were also determined by single crystal X-ray crystallography. In the binuclear complex 3, the Cu center dot center dot center dot Cu distance is 3.494 angstrom. In 1, 2 and 3, the Cu(II) centers have distorted square pyramidal geometry (tau(5) = 0.05-0.17). Evidence of weak pi center dot center dot center dot pi stacking intermolecular interactions along with other non-covalent interactions (hydrogen bonding) was observed by analyzing the respective crystal structures of the complexes. Thus, these hydrogen bonds, pi center dot center dot center dot pi stacking interactions and other weak intermolecular interactions establish in the form of supramolecular architectures a crystalline network environment. The non-covalent interactions were also investigated by employing Hirshfeld Analysis. The room temperature magnetic moments of the mononuclear complexes are less than the spin only values which are indicative of small interactions. Also, significant magnetic interactions were not exhibited by binuclear copper(II) complex 3 in the variable temperature magnetic measurements. The X-band EPR spectra of all three complexes exhibit copper(II) hyperfine structures as well as zero-field splitting which are appropriate for the triplet states of dimers. In complexes 1 and 2, the presence of pseudo dipolar interactions is proposed. Quantum chemical calculations (DFT) were carried out on complexes 1-3 to explore the electronic and spectral properties of these newly synthesized complexes. These complexes show significant antiproliferative and SOD activity. The SOD activity measured in terms of kMcCF is in the range 4.94-12.31 (mol L)(-1)s(-1))x 10(4). (C) 2021 Elsevier Ltd. A novel fluorescent probe, TCF-IPY, has been designed and developed for highly selective and ratiometric detection of GSH based on the extend of the pi-conjugation system of imidazo[1,5-alpha]pyridine IPY-CHO. Upon addition of GSH, TCF-IPY displayed remarkable fluorescence variations (approximate 949-fold ratio changes) from 603 nm to 475 nm, thereby enabling GSH detection in a fine ratiometric manner. Moreover, TCF-IPY exhibited excellent selectivity toward GSH over other biologically related species including Cys and Hcy. The huge blue shifts both in absorption (259 nm) and emission spectra (128 nm), low cytotoxicity, high sensitivity (97 nM) and rapid response (240 s) of TCF-IPY make it a robust molecular tool for endogenous GSH investigation. Furthermore, TCF-IPY was also successfully used for ratiometric imaging of endogenous GSH in living MCF-7 cells and zebrafish.

POM-supported metal carbonyl derivatives (PMCDs) represent a family of tremendous potential catalysts owing to their peculiar physical and chemical properties. Yet low-valence transition metal-substituted Dawson-type PMCD catalysts are uncommon. Hence, we synthesized a tricobalt-substituted PMCDs by conventional aqueous solution method, [Na(H2O)(5)](NH4)(7)[P2W15O56Co3(H2O)(3)(OH)(3)Re(CO)(3)]center dot 13H(2)O (1), and characterized by single crystal X-ray diffraction crystallography, IR, and thermogravimetric analyses (TGA), etc. The obtained compound 1 was employed as a catalyst for the oxidation of diphenylmethane (DPM) to benzophenone, giving 96.8% yield in the presence of tert-butyl hydroperoxide (TBHP) and pyridine. The control experiments indicate that Co metal ion plays an important role in the catalytic reactions. As a side note, the electrospray ionization mass spectrometry (ESI-MS) and UV spectroscopy showed that 1 can retain its integrity in solution, and magnetic measurements indicated that 1 exhibited a weaker ferromagnetic interaction at low temperature.

High-valent iron-oxo complexes are key intermediates in C-H functionalization reactions. Herein, we report the generation of a (TAML)Fe-oxo species (TAML = tetraamido macrocyclic ligand) via electrochemical proton-coupled oxidation of the corresponding (TAML)Fe-III-OH2 complex. Cyclic voltammetry (CV) and spectroelectrochemical studies are used to elucidate the relevant (TAML)Fe redox processes and determine the predominant (TAML)Fe species present in solution during bulk electrolysis. Evidence for iron(iv) and iron(v) species is presented, and these species are used in the electrochemical oxygenation of benzylic C-H bonds and dehydrogenation of alcohols to ketones.

A highly efficient and practical method for incorporation of the arylmethylpyridyl moiety into diverse molecules has been developed. This method features the transition metal-free light-induced room temperature transformation of pyridotriazoles into pyridyl carbenes, which are capable of smooth arylation, X-H insertion, and cyclopropanation reactions. The synthetic usefulness of the developed method was illustrated in a facile synthesis of biologically active molecules.

Two mononuclear Fe(II) complexes having same ligand framework, coordination geometry but different counter anions [Fe(L)]X-2 [L = N-(phenyl-pyridin-2-yl-methylene)-ethane-1,2-diamine; X = ClO4- (1), PF6- (2)] have been synthesized and crystallographically characterized. Both the complexes catalyzed catechol-quinone oxidation pH dependently. In the pH range 8.3-8.5 the suitable activity of both the complexes were found. Counter anions in the complexes played a significant role in controlling the turn over numbers of the catalytic reactions. In acetonitrile (MeCN), the turn over number for 1 was 4.99 h(-1) and for 2, it was 42.75 h(-1).
