We reported a novel two-step stereoselective synthesis of functionalized pyrrolidines from homopropargylic sulfonamides and nucleophiles via an isolable N,O-acetal intermediates. This reaction features mild conditions and good scope of substrates. In addition, the use of hexafluoroisopropanol, acting as a solvent, an additive, a weak nucleophile, and a good leaving group, is pivotal to the success of the method. Moreover, reactions of chiral homopropargylic sulfonamides afford only 2,5-cis-disubstituted pyrrolidines with high diastereoselectivity (up to >99:1 dr) and enantioselectivity (up to >99% ee). The overall reaction constitutes a formal 1,1-bifunctionalization of terminal alkynes, which has hitherto been reported only rarely. Additionally, this method provides efficient access to pharmaceutical intermediate and to carry out postmodification of natural products.

A naphthalimide-pyridoxal conjugate 1 has been designed and synthesized. Compound 1 forms a stable greenish yellow colored gel in DMSO:H2O (8:1 v/v). Rheological study reveals that the gel is mechanically strong (G> G) over a wide range of applied strains. The morphology of the gel as determined by FESEM shows a highly cross-linked fibrous network. The gel is anion-responsive and is selectively transformed into a sol with a color change from greenish yellow to deep blue only in the presence of F- among other anions. In CH3CN, compound 1 was also sensitive to basic anions such as F- and AcO- ions. In solution, F- was differentiated from AcO- through a color change. While the yellow colored solution of 1 in acetonitrile was changed into deep blue in the presence of F-, AcO- ions gave a faint blue coloration. A similar colorimetric differentiation of F- from AcO- has been possible in CH3CN by a reusable Schiff base-linked Merrifield resin 1a or 1b.

Blue emitting phosphorescent materials with high efficiency and high stability are a key requirement for the wider adoption of organic light emitting devices (OLEDs). In order to achieve triplet derived emission at the higher energy region of the electromagnetic spectrum, a series of neutral, monocyclometalated gold(iii) complexes with trifluoromethyl and trifluoromethoxy functionalized 2-phenylpyridine (ppy) derivatives, 2-anilinopyridine (apy), 2-benzoylpyridine (bpy) and 2-benzylpyridine (bepy), as the cyclometalating framework and diaryl or monoaryl alkyne as ancillary ligands have been designed and synthesized. Extensive photophysical and chemical characterization by various nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy techniques, elemental analysis and single crystal X-ray diffraction studies of selected compounds was carried out to confirm the structural and the chemical identity of the complexes. The emission wavelength maxima of the complexes appear in the blue/sky blue region of the electromagnetic spectrum. Detailed photophysical investigations revealed that the different emission properties of the complexes are predominantly dictated by the electronic properties of the cyclometalating ligand. The interesting photoluminescence properties along with the facile synthetic access makes this a promising concept to obtain highly suitable blue emitting gold(iii) complexes.

A novel NNO pincer type ligand (E)-N’-(phenyl(pyridin-2-yl)methylene)isonicotinohydrazide, PPMINH, was synthesized by condensation of 2-benzoyl pyridine and isonicotinylhydrazide. The ligand PPMINH on reaction with metal ions Fe(III), Co(II) and Ni(II) yielded six metal derivatives. Different analysis tools like; Elemental analyses, ESI-MS, FT-IR, molar conductivity, UV-spectra, magnetic susceptibility, NMR and EPR measurement were used. Theoretical FT-IR, H-1 NMR and C-13 NMR of ligand and complex 6 exhibits quite a good correlation coefficient. EPR spectrum of complex 6 at LNT suggests octahedral geometry around Ni(II). The ligand and complexes were screened for antibacterial activity. DFT has been carried out to optimize the geometry of the ligand and complexes. The properties most relevant to their potential action as corrosion inhibitors has been calculated all parameters of DFT from the inhibitor molecule to the metal atom. The corrosion inhibition effect of compounds on mild steel in an acidic medium was studied for 24, 48, 72 h using weight loss measurement. (C) 2021 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

Three hydroxymethyl bridged Cu(ii) complexes of a pyridoxal Schiff base ligand 4-((E)-(2-(pyridin-2-yl)ethylimino)methyl)-5-(hydroxymethyl)-2-methylpyridin-3-ol (LH) have been synthesized and characterized on the basis of spectroscopic, elctrochemical and structural properties. The X-ray crystal structures of the complexes reveal dual denticity of the ligand, bidenticity in the absence of a co-ligand as in complex1, and tridenticity in the presence of a co-ligand such as SCN-/N(CN)(2)(-)as in complexes2and3. The complexes, though binuclear in the solid state, exist as a monomeric unit in solution due to the exceptionally long axial Cu-O-hydroxymethyl(2.4-2.5 angstrom) bond. All three complexes show efficient catalytic activities towards the aerial oxidation of 3,5-ditertiarybutylcatechol (DTBCH2) withk(cat)values of 5.38 x 10(4)h(-1), 1.18 x 10(5)h(-1)and 1.06 x 10(5)h(-1)in methanol. Complexes1and2also act as a selective sulphide ion sensor withK(b)values of 6.6 x 10(3)M(-1)and 8.1 x 10(3)M(-1), respectively, while their respective L.O.D. values are 3.4 mu M and 3.2 mu M.

Direct alkylation and arylation of allylic C(sp3)-H bonds are straight-forward approaches for accessing allylic C-C products. However, the engagement of allylic C-C bond- forming reaction without introducing extraneous functional groups and stoichiometric oxidant or reductant has proved difficult. Here, we report a general and mild strategy using semiconductor quantum dots (QDs) as photocatalysts for coupling a broad range of available allylic C(sp(3))-H bonds with alpha- amino C-H bonds or heteroarenes, respectively, under sunlight irradiation (> 85 examples). The protocol bypasses stoichiometric oxidant or reductant and pre-functionalization of both the coupling partners and produces hydrogen (H-2) as the byproduct. The outstanding efficiency and selectivity and step- and atom-economy represents the first direct alkylation and arylation of allylic C(sp(3))-H bonds with hydrogen evolution powered by solar energy.

An X-ray diffraction study reveals identical crystallization patterns for each of the complexes, in the monoclinic crystal system with the C2/c space group. Interestingly, the synthesized complexes are isostructural in nature. The complexes showed biomimetic phenoxazinone synthase-like activity for the aerial oxidation of o-aminophenol to phenoxazine-2-one, separately in methanol (MeOH) and acetonitrile (ACN) solutions. For each of the complexes, the turnover numbers were found to be higher in MeOH than in ACN. The highest catalytic activity between among the three complexes was found to be for complex 2. Purpose: We investigated Nw-hydroxy L-Arginine (NOHA) predictive response in serous ovarian carcinoma based on estrogen-hormone receptor expression status; and assessed the distinctive NOHA response between estrogen-receptor-negative (ER-) tumor subtypes of ovarian and breast cancer. Materials/methods: Three-dimensional (3D) spheroids models of ER- and estrogen-receptor-positive (ER+) from breast and ovarian tumor, cultured for 9 weeks, were assayed for cellular levels of inducible nitric oxide synthase (NOS2), nitric oxide (as total nitrite) and L-Arginine, and compared to NOHA in culture medium. Statistical difference was set at p < 0.01. Results: Nine-week in vitro studies showed a progressive NOHA reduction in culture medium by at least 0.4-0.8 fold, and 0.65-0.92 fold only in the ER-breast tumor and ER-ovarian tumor 3D spheroids, respectively; with increases in cellular NOS2 and nitric-oxide levels, by at least 1.0-2.45 fold in both ER-tumor subtype 3D spheroids (p < 0.01; n = 6). Within ER-subtypes, medium NOHA decreased by >= 38.9% in ovarian cancer over breast cancer 3D-spheroids, with cellular increases in NOS2 (by >= 17.4%), and nitric oxide (by >= 18.8%). Cellular L-Arginine to medium NOHA ratio was higher, and by at least 6.5-22.5 fold in ER-breast tumor 3D-spheroids, and at least 10-70 fold in ER-ovarian tumor 3D spheroids, than in ER+ and control conditions; and was >= 48% higher in ER-ovarian cancer than in ER-breast cancer 3D-spheroids. Conclusions: The present study shows NOHA as a sensitive and selective indicator differentiating and distinguishing ER-subtypes based on the tumor grade.

Two magnetic nano catalysts of nickel and copper, Fe3O4@SiO2@DOP-BenPyr-M(II), (M=Ni and Cu) have been synthesized. These catalysts were applied as recoverable, efficient and new heterogeneous catalysts for the high yielding and room temperature one-pot procedure of selective oxidation of sulfides to sulfoxides and oxidative coupling of thiols to disulfides.
