The ethyl acetate was removed, and to the resulting xylene solution was added 6.0 mL 2-aminoethanol, and the mixture was heated at 130C for 10 hours. The mixture was stirred for 1 hour at 100 C. The mixture was directly loaded on a 50 g silicagel column and was eluted with an heptan:ethyl acetate gradient 100:0 to 0:100 and an ethyl acetate:methanol gradient 100:0 to 80:20. The desired 1-(6-bromo-pyridin-3-yl)-4,4-dimethyl-imidazolidin-2-one (810 mg, 85% yield) was obtained as a light yellow solid, MS: m/e=207.1/272.1 (M+H+).

The crude product was purified by preparative TLC to give the title compound (6.5 mg, 11% yield) as white solid. 1H NMR (CD3OD+CDCl3): 9.42 (d, J=7.2 Hz, 1H), 8.41-8.39 (m, 2H), 8.10 (d, J=7.2 Hz, 1H), 7.95 (d, J=9.0 Hz, 1H), 7.58-7.45 (m, 4H), 7.18-7.11 (m, 3H), 5.38 (s, 2H). MS: m/z 398.2 [M+H]+.
