The 2,6-bis[1H-1,2,3-triazol-4-yl]-pyridine (PyTri) chelating unit has already shown promising properties for application to advanced hydrometallurgical processes aimed at recovering minor actinides from highly active raffinate. Radiolytic stability is an undeniable key requirement for chemicals involved in highly radioactive solutions partitioning, since radiolysis can have a huge impact on system safety and performances. In this work, the radiolytic degradation of two hydrophilic PyTri complexing agents was investigated by different analytical techniques. The radiation damage was delivered by a Co-60 source. The main radiation-induced ligand degradation by-products were hypothesized. Development of Human Serum Albumin Selective Fluorescent Probe Using Thieno[3,2-b]pyridine-5(4H)-one Fluorophore Derivatives

The level of human serum albumin (HSA) in biological fluids is a key health indicator and its quantitative determination has great clinical importance. In this study, we developed a selective and sensitive fluorescent HSA probe by fluorescence-based high-throughput screening of a set of fluorescent thieno[3,2-b]pyridine-5(4H)-one derivatives against major plasma proteins: HSA, bovine serum albumin (BSA), globulin, fibrinogen, and transferrin. The fluorophore chosen finally (4) showed noticeable fluorescence enhancement in the presence of HSA (160-fold increase), and it exhibited rapid response, high sensitivity (detection limit 8 nM), and the ability to clearly distinguish HSA from BSA in pH 9 buffer condition. Moreover, the probe could be applicable to detect trace amounts of HSA in an artificial urine sample; further, it might be applied to the determination of the HSA concentration in complex biological samples for pre-clinical diagnosis.

Synthesis, Characterization, Antitumor Activity, and Theoretical Calculations of Co(II) Complex Based on Pyridine-2,6-dicarboxylic Acid

A new cobalt complex, namely[Co(Hpdc)(bpy)Cl]center dot C2H5OH (bpy=2,2′-bipyridine), was synthesized by using pyridine-2,6-dicarboxylic acid (H(2)pdc) as ligand under hydrothermal condition, and followed by experimental characterization of infrared spectroscopy and X-ray single-crystal diffraction. To deeply reveal the electronic structure of this complex, density functional theory calculations were employed to investigate its charge distribution, electrostatic potential, frontier molecular orbitals, and relevant electronic properties under aqueous condition. Moreover, the antitumor activity of this complex was evaluated by thiazolyl blue tkloYetrazolium bromide (MTT) assay in chronic myelocytic leukemia (K562) and esophageal carcinoma (OE-19) cancer cell lines, and the resulting IC50 values were estimated to be as low as (0.22 +/- 0.05) mu g.mL(-1) and (0.82 +/- 0.16) mu g.mL(-1) (i. e., (0.48 +/- 0.11) mu mol.L-1 and (1.77 +/- 0.35) mu mol.L-1) for K562 and OE-19, respectively, demonstrating its cytotoxic activity against these two cancer cell lines.

Induction of Chirality in Supramolecular Coassemblies Built from Achiral Precursors

The emergence, transference, amplification, and memory of chiroptical activity in supramolecular assemblies, including circularly polarized absorbance and circularly polarized luminescence, remain significant challenges. Herein, an achiral pyridine-substituted coumarin derivative and chiral additives can coassemble into helical nanostructures with fine chiroptical activity via subtle hydrogen-bonding interactions. The resulting supramolecular assemblies remain optically active even after the removal of chiral additives, demonstrating supramolecular chirality can be remembered in the assemblies. More importantly, the removed chiral elements can be reused to achieve continuous circulation and amplification of chirality. This work presents insight into the emergence, transference, amplification, and memory of chirality in a supramolecular assembly system and could be applied to the manufacturing of chiroptical materials.

A high thermal stability terpyridine derivative as the electron transporter for long-lived green phosphorescent OLED

A new terpyridine-based compound of 2,2′,7,7′-tetra([2,2′:6′,2 ”-terpyridin]-4′-yl)-9,9′-spirobi[fluorene] (4oTPSF) was designed and synthesized as the electron transporter in organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs). 4oTPSF exhibited excellent thermal stability with high glass transition temperature (Tg) of 250 degrees C and melting temperature (T-m) of 460 degrees C during the thermal measurement. The excellent thermal stability is attributed to the molecular structure, that the steric effect of rigid twisted spirobiflourene and the connected terpyridine (TPY) resulted in a decrease of the intermolecular pi-stacking interaction. The studies on electrical characteristics of electron-only devices revealed that 4oTPSF showed high electron-transporting capability, as good as the conventional electron-transporting material (ETM) 1,3,5-tris(N-phenylbenzimid-azol-2-yl-benzene (TPBi). A series of green phosphorescent OLEDs (PhOLEDs) based on bis(2-phenylpyridine)iridium(III)(2,2,6,6-tetramethylheptane-3,5-diketonate) (Ir(ppy)2tmd) or tris[2-(p-tolyl)pyridine]iridium(III) (Ir(mppy)3) as emitter and 4oTPSF as ETM displayed a turn-on voltage of 2.23 V and a maximum power efficiency of 97.8 l m/W and a half-life (T-50) of 101, 5680 and 319 390 h at an initial luminance of 10 000, 1000 and 100 cd/m(2), respectively. The lifetime of 4oTPSF-based device was twice more than the lifetime of TPBi-based device.

Acid-etched Pt/Al-MCM-41 catalysts for fuel production by one-step hydrotreatment of Jatropha oil

Effective catalysts are indispensable for the preparation of fuel components from vegetable oils via the one-step hydrothermal method. In this study, the Pt/MCM-41 catalysts were prepared by etching with sulfuric acid, citric acid, or hydrochloric acid. The performance of the obtained Pt/MCM-41 catalysts for the hydrothermal treatment of vegetable oils was evaluated in a fixed-bed reactor using Jatropha oil as a model raw material (temperature = 360 degrees C, liquid hourly space velocity = 1 h(-1), hydrogen-oil ratio = 1000, and hydrogen pressure = 4 MPa). The modified catalysts were characterized using X-ray diffraction, transmission electron microscopy, Brunauer-Emmett-Teller analysis, X-ray fluorescence spectrometry, temperature-programmed desorption of NH3, CO chemisorption, and pyridine adsorption infrared spectroscopy, respectively. Furthermore, the selectivity of various fuel components, including C-8-C-16 alkanes, C-8-C-16 iso-alkanes, C-8-C-16 arenes, and C-17-C-18 alkanes, were analyzed based on the catalyst characteristics. Acid etching was found to decrease the surface area of Al-MCM-41 but increase the amount of acid sites, and among these acids, citric acid was proved as the priority additives, with better catalytic performance. Moreover, this catalyst exhibited the best conversion and the highest C-8-C-16 and C-17-C-18 selectivities.

Experimental and theoretical study of new Schiff bases based on imidazo(1,2-a)pyridine as corrosion inhibitor of mild steel in 1M HCl

In this work, we report a study on the synthesis and characterization, using several spectroscopic techniques such as IR, 13C NMR, 1H NMR and mass spectroscopy, of a new series of Schiff bases based on imidazo(1,2a)pyridine (IMP) scaffold, and the evaluation of their ability to inhibit the corrosion of mild steel in 1M HCl by mass loss techniques, Potentiodynamic polarization, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS), and quantum chemistry calculation based on density functional theory (DFT). The obtained results show that these inhibitors, namely (E)-N-(2-phenylimidazo(1,2-a)pyridin-3-yl)-1-(1H-pyrrol-2-yl)methanimine (IMP1), (E)-N-(2-phenylimidazo(1,2-a)pyridin-3-yl)-1-(thiophen-2-yl)methanimine (IMP2) and (E)-1-(5-nitrothiophen-2-yl)-N-(2-phenylimidazo(1,2-a)pyridin-3-yl)methanimine (IMP3), act only by reducing the cathode area without changing the mechanism of the cathodic reaction, and that the effectiveness of the inhibition increases with increasing concentration of the inhibitors. The adsorption of the studied compounds on the surface of mild steel follows the Langmuir isotherm model. And finally, we highlighted the existence of a correlation between the molecular structure of the tested inhibitors and their anticorrosion activity. (C) 2020 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
