The heterogeneous decarboxylative cyclization reaction between 2-benzoylpyridines and alpha-amino acids was achieved in toluene at 120 degrees C in the presence of 15 mol% of L-proline-functionalized MCM-41-supported copper(II) complex [L-Proline-MCM-41-Cu(OTf)(2)] and iodine with di-tert-butyl peroxide (DTBP) as oxidant, yielding a variety of 1,3-disubstituted imidazo[1,5-a]pyridines in good to excellent yields. The new supported copper catalyst can be prepared from commercially available and inexpensive reagents, and recovered from the reaction mixture by a simple filtration and recycled up to eight times with almost consistent activity. The transfer hydrogenation of ketones catalyzed by transition metal complexes has attracted much attention. A series of ruthenium(11) complexes bearing 2,6-bis(5,6-dialkyl-1,2,4-triazin-3-yl)pyridine ligands (R-BTPs) were synthesized and characterized by NMR analysis and X-ray diffraction. These ruthenium (II) complexes were applied in the transfer hydrogenation of ketones. Their different catalytic activity were attributed to the alkyl arms on the 2,6-bis(5,6-dialkyl-1,2,4-triazin-3-yl)pyridine. As the length of the alkyl arms rising, the catalytic activities of the complex catalysts decreased. By means of 0.4 mol % catalyst RuCl2(PPh3)(3-methylbutyl-BTP) in refluxing 2-propanol, a variety of ketones were reduced to their corresponding alcohols with >95% conversion over a period of 3 h. A new unsymmetrical N2O2-tetradentate Schiff-base complex of zinc(II) was synthesized by the template reaction of pyridoxal-S-methylthiosemicarbazone and 2-hydroxy-4-methoxy-benzaldehyde as starting compounds. S-methylthiosemicarbazone (1) and zinc(II) complex [Zn(L)CH3OH] ( 2) were characterized by elemental analysis, FT-IR, UV-visible, H-1, and C-13 NMR spectra. The molecular structure of the complex (2) was determined by single crystal X-ray diffraction technique. The structure consists of a distorted square-pyramidal geometry around the central metal, Zn(II). Quantum chemical calculations were carried out using density functional theory DFT/B3LYP, 6-31G (d), and LanL2DZ basis sets for theoretical characterization of the compounds. The experimental and theoretical data were compared comprehensively. The potential energy distribution (PED) analysis was performed for the assignment of vibration frequencies. In order to support in vitro studies, molecular docking studies have been carried out so that the title compound can be an inhibitor of Epidermal Growth Factor Receptor (1 m17), and the relationship between calculated HOMO energies and docking studies has been examined. In addition, the total antioxidant capacity (as TEAC value) and free radical scavenging activity of the compounds were determined by Cupric Reducing Antioxidant Capacity (CUPRAC) and 1,1-diphenyl-2-picryl hydrazyl (DPPH) methods, respectively. Direct alkylation and arylation of allylic C(sp3)-H bonds are straight-forward approaches for accessing allylic C-C products. However, the engagement of allylic C-C bond- forming reaction without introducing extraneous functional groups and stoichiometric oxidant or reductant has proved difficult. Here, we report a general and mild strategy using semiconductor quantum dots (QDs) as photocatalysts for coupling a broad range of available allylic C(sp(3))-H bonds with alpha- amino C-H bonds or heteroarenes, respectively, under sunlight irradiation (> 85 examples). The protocol bypasses stoichiometric oxidant or reductant and pre-functionalization of both the coupling partners and produces hydrogen (H-2) as the byproduct. The outstanding efficiency and selectivity and step- and atom-economy represents the first direct alkylation and arylation of allylic C(sp(3))-H bonds with hydrogen evolution powered by solar energy.

Iridium-catalyzed enantioselective transfer hydrogenation of ketones with formic acid was developed using a prolinol-phosphine chiral ligand. Cooperative action of the iridium atom and the ligand through alcohol-alkoxide interconversion is crucial to facilitate the transfer hydrogenation. Various ketones including alkyl aryl ketones, ketoesters, and an aryl heteroaryl ketone were competent substrates. An attractive feature of this catalysis is efficient discrimination between the alkyl and aryl substituents of the ketones, promoting hydrogenation with the identical sense of enantioselection regardless of steric demand of the alkyl substituent and thus resulting in a rare case of highly enantioselective transfer hydrogenation of tert-alkyl aryl ketones. Quantum chemical calculations revealed that the sp(3)-C-H/pi interaction between an sp(3)-C-H bond of the prolinol-phosphine ligand and the aryl substituent of the ketone is crucial for the enantioselection in combination with O-H center dot center dot center dot O/sp(3)-C-H center dot center dot center dot O two-point hydrogen-bonding between the chiral ligand and carbonyl group.

Sufu is a pleasant-tasting, traditional Chinese fermented soybean food that is rich in nutrients. In this study, the changes of volatile and nonvolatile metabolites in sufu fermented by bacillus licheniformis, were investigated. The results indicated that a total of 55 kinds of nonvolatile compounds were detected, including 2 carbohydrates, 4 alcohols, 17 amino acids, 18 organic acids, 6 biogenic amines, and 8 other substances. Furthermore, a total of 58 volatile compounds identified were composed of 11 esters, 16 alcohols, 10 acids, and 21 miscellaneous compounds. Inoculation of bacillus licheniformis enriched the metabolite pro?le of sufu and improved its functionality and safety of edibility. It was observed that the pure fermented starter resulted in controlled acceleration of sufu maturation.

The interaction between pyridoxal hydrochloride (HQ) and apoCopC was investigated using Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), isothermal titration calorimetry (ITC), circular dichroism (CD), fluorescence spectroscopy, three-dimensional (3D) fluorescence spectroscopy, fluorescence lifetime, TNS fluorescence and docking methods. FTIR, CD, TNS fluorescence and fluorescence lifetime experiments suggested that the apoCopC conformation was altered by HQ with an increase in the random coil content and a reduction in the beta-sheet content. In addition, the data from fluorescence spectroscopy, 3D fluorescence spectroscopy and molecular docking revealed that the binding site of HQ was located in the hydrophobic area of apoCopC, and a redshift of the HQ fluorescence spectra was observed. Furthermore, ITC and fluorescence quenching data manifested that the binding ratio of HQ and apoCopC was 1:1, and the forming constant was calculated to be (7.06 +/- 0.21) x 10(5) M-1. The thermodynamic parameters Delta H and Delta S suggested that the formation of a CopC-HQcomplex depended on the hydrophobic force. Furthermore, the average binding distance between tryptophan in apoCopC and HQ was determined by means of Forster non-radioactive resonance energy transfer and molecular docking. The results agreed well with each other. As a redox switch in the modulation of copper, the interaction of apoCopC with small molecules will affect the action of the redox switch.
