Dioxane (3 mL) and water (0.33 mL) were added, and the reaction mixture was heated to 100C for 5 hours. The mixture was allowed to cool to room temperature. Hydrochloric acid (4.0 N in dioxane, 3.80 mL, 15 mmol) was added to the mixture, and the suspension was stirred vigorously for 14 hours at room temperature. The mixture was filtered and concentrated under reduced pressure. The residue was dissolved in DMSO and purified via reverse phase HPLC (15-50% acetonitrile/water with 0.1% TFA, linear gradient) to give 4,6-bis(l -methyl- lH-pyrazol-4-yl)pyridin-2-amine. MS ESI calc’d. for C13H15N6 [M + H]+ 255, found 255. 1H NMR (500 MHz, DMSO-d6) delta 8.46 (s, 1H), 8.42 (s, 1H), 8.15 (s, 1H), 8.11 (s, 1H), 7.70-7.59 (m, 2H), 7.40 (s, 1H), 6.80 (s, 1H), 3.93 (s, 3H), 3.90 (s, 3H).
