Pyridotriazoles are utilized as robust building blocks to access alpha-secondary and alpha-tertiary pyridines via the development of a simple yet practically useful metal-free denitrogenative C-C cross-coupling with boronic acids. The reaction shows a high level of functional tolerance, broad substrate scope, and facile scalability. The synthetic potential of the method is demonstrated by the strurctural modification of a bioactive molecule and concise synthesis of pheniramine analogs.

Hydrogen polysulfides (H2Sn, n > 1) belong to sulfane sulfur in the reactive sulfur species (RSS) family and play significant roles in maintaining biological homeostasis in organisms. The detection of H2Sn in living systems is essential, but further understanding of its intact function in living cells has been limited, owing to the lack of appropriate analytical tools. In this work, a new fluorescent probe PP-PS was designed for the detection of endogenous H2Sn. The probe has a large Stokes shift (178 nm), low detection limit (1 nM), and short response time (1 minute). Besides, PP-PS was successfully applied in the imaging of endogenous H2Sn in lysosomes of living cancer cells, xenograft mouse tumor tissues, and LPS-induced mouse inflammation tissues. These results revealed that the probe PP-PS could act as a new fluorescence imaging tool to study the function of intracellular hydropolysulfides.

The proposed synthesis is relatively simple and efficient and involves the iodine-triggered 5-endo-trig cyclization of 2-pyridylallene precursors. While it can be conducted on a gram scale, the preparation of the precursors is straightforward and does not always require intermediate purifications. The obtained 2-iodoindolizines can be further functionalized through cross-coupling reactions.

BACKGROUND There is a close relationship between certain ‘aging markers’ in wine and the wine’s age. This study aimed to characterize all extracted aging markers in Chinese rice wine and distinguish the ages of Chinese rice wine using principal component analysis (PCA) and cluster analysis (CA). RESULTS A total of 49 potential aging markers (P <= 0.05*) were extracted from 71 volatile organic compounds (VOCs) in Chinese rice wine across a range of seven different ages. Of all 49 extracted aging markers, all furans, 2/3 aldehydes and ketones maintained significantly increasing levels with age (P <= 0.01**), especially sotolon (0.981**) and acetophenone (0.951**). On the other hand, all sulfides decreased significantly (P <= 0.01**). Changes in vanillin, guaiacol, 4-vinylguaiacol (4-VG) and 4-ethylguaiacol (4-EG) also suggested a potential synthesis during the aging process. The results of PCA and CA demonstrated that Chinese rice wines with different ages could be clearly distinguished from each other, which was consistent with the evolution of the 49 aging markers during the aging process. CONCLUSION These 49 potential 'aging markers' successfully distinguished ages using PCA and CA. Our results therefore throw light on the characterization of VOCs during Chinese rice wine aging, and provide a quantitative basis for discriminating the ages of Chinese rice wine. A new family of eight heterobimetallic Cu(i)-dppf complexes of general formula [Cu(dppf)L][BF4] with dppf = 1,1 ‘-bis(diphenylphosphino)ferrocene and L representing N,N-, N,O- and N,S-heteroaromatic bidentate ligands have been synthesized and fully characterized by classical analytical, spectroscopic and electrochemical methods. The single crystal structures of [Cu(dppf)(pBI)][BF4] (6), [Cu(dppf)(dpytz)][BF4] (7) and [Cu(dppf)(5-Aphen)][BF4] (8) complexes (where pBI = 2-(2-pyridyl)benzimidazole, dpytz = 3-(2-pyridyl)-5,6-diphenyl-1,2,4-triazine and 5-Aphen = 1,10-phenanthrolin-5-amine) were determined by X-ray diffraction studies. Cytotoxicity of all complexes was evaluated in two human breast adenocarcinoma cell lines (MCF7 and MDAMB231). All the complexes exhibit high cytotoxicity against both human breast cancer cells with IC50 values far lower than those found for the antitumor drug cisplatin in the same cell lines. The IC50 values on primary healthy fibroblasts are of the same order of magnitude as those found for the tumoral cells.

An iron-sulfur complex formed by the simple mixture of FeCl3 with S-3(center dot-) generated in situ from K2S is developed and applied to selective aerobic oxidation of terminal alkenes. The photoswitching properties of three readily accesible benzoylpyridine hydrazones were investigated. Interestingly, replacing classical stirring with ultrasound wave activation results in pure thermodynamically less stable E isomer crystallization at room temperature. The studied benzoylpyridine hydrazones exhibit both P- and T-photochromic behaviour, depending on the benzoyl substituent, and improved addressability compared to most of the previously published pyridyl based hydrazones and 2-pyridylcarboxaldehyde acylhydrazones. Low activation entropy and calculated transition state geometry favour the inversion mechanism of their thermal isomerization rather than tautomerization followed by rotation recently found for pyridyl-hydrazone ester or nitrile rotary switches. The association behaviour of the nitro derivative during its thermal E-to-Z isomerization in highly polar DMSO indicates an important role of intermolecular hydrogen bonding in the thermal kinetics of benzoylpyridine-based hydrazone photoswitches. Moreover, the addition of triethylamine significantly accelerates the rate of Z-isomer thermal isomerization from days to seconds and could thus pave the way to fast pyridyl hydrazone T-type photochromic compounds in polar solvents. This study could therefore contribute to general knowledge related to the photochromic behaviour of hydrazones as an important class of modern photoswitches.

A selective, economical, and ecological protocol has been described for the oxidation of methyl arenes and their analogs to the corresponding carbonyl compounds and epoxidation reactions of alkenes with molecular oxygen (O-2) or air as a green oxygen source, under mild reaction conditions.
