A new cyan fluorescent probe, MIPY-DNBS, using an imidazo[1,5-alpha]pyridine derivative as the fluorophore and 2,4-dinitrobenzensufonate as the recognition site for the selective detection of thiols (Cys, GSH, and Hcy), was designed and synthesized. Probe MIPY-DNBS exhibited a 172 nm Stokes shift, a fast response time (400 s), low cytotoxicity, low detection limits (12.7 nM for Cys), and excellent selectively in the detection of thiols. In addition, MIPY-DNBS was successfully applied to imaging thiols in living MCF-7 cells and zebrafish.

The combined influence of structural factors (Y, Z substituents) on the rate of catalyzed by Z-substituted pyridines reactions of phenyloxirane with Y-substituted N-aroylbenzenesulfonamides in acetonitrile at 293 K was studied. A cross-correlation analysis of the results of a multifactor kinetic experiment was carried out. A polylinear regression, that adequately describes the non-additive effects of substituents Y and Z, was calculated. Due to the interaction of the joint effects of structure, the cross-reaction series exhibits isoparametric properties. The mechanism of the catalytic process has been discussed.

A new fluorometric chemodosimeter 2-amino-3-(((E)-3-(1-phenylimidazo[1,5-]pyridin-3-yl)benzylidene)amino)maleonitrile (BPI-MAL) has been designed and synthesized for sensing hypochlorite. BPI-MAL showed a selective turn-on fluorescence for ClO- through hypochlorite-promoted de-diaminomaleonitrile reaction. It also could detect ClO- in the presence of various competitive anions including reactive oxygen species. Interestingly, sensor BPI-MAL was successfully applied as a fluorescent test kit for ClO- determination. The sensing property and mechanism of BPI-MAL toward ClO- were studied by fluorescence and UV-vis spectroscopy, NMR titration and DFT calculations.

The synthesis and solid state structural, spectral and electrochemical solution characterization of [Cu(L)(acpy)]ClO4 1 and [Cu(L)(NO3)]( )2 [where L = N'[(E)-phenyl(pyridin-2-yl)methylideneithiophene-2-carbohydrazide and acpy = 2,6-Diacetylpyridine] have been done by elemental analysis, UV-vis, FTIR, electrochemical techniques (CV and DPV) and electron paramagnetic resonance (epr) spectroscopy. The single crystal structures were solved by the X-ray diffraction technique. In complex 1, copper ion is in a distorted octahedral environment. The geometry of copper(II) in complex 2 is distorted square pyramidal (tau = 0.201). The mono deprotonated, HL ligand act as a tridentate to a copper(II) ion. On the basis of density functional theory (DFT) calculation, the electronic excitations involve transitions mainly from metal ligand bonding mostly the alpha-LUMO within the dominant Cu d(xy) character and to alpha-LUMO+1. Epr spectra for polycrystalline samples showed the copper(II) hyperfine features as well as half-field signal which are appropriate for Delta M-s = +/- 2 of dimers. Presence of half-field signal in 1 is due to solid-solid interaction (intra-molecular) where as in 2 the nature of interaction is intra-molecular. The antioxidant superoxide measurements show that the both complexes 1 and 2 behave as superoxide mimic in alkaline nitro blue tetrazolium chloride assay. (C) 2020 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

An iron-sulfur complex formed by the simple mixture of FeCl3 with S-3(center dot-) generated in situ from K2S is developed and applied to selective aerobic oxidation of terminal alkenes. Synthesis of the multidentate coordinated chelate N3C-H-2, composed of a linked functional pyridyl pyrazole fragment plus a peripheral phenyl and pyridyl unit, was obtained using a multistep protocol. Preparation of Ir(III) metal complexes bearing a N3C chelate in the tridentate (kappa(3)), tetradentate (kappa(4)), and pentadentate (kappa(5)) modes was executed en route from two nonemissive dimer intermediates [Ir(kappa(3)-N3CH)Cl-2](2) (1) and [Ir(kappa(4)-N3C)Cl](2) (2). Next, a series of mononuclear Ir(III) complexes with the formulas [Ir(kappa(4)-N3C)Cl(py)] (3), [Ir(kappa(4)-N3C)Cl(dmap)] (4), [Ir(kappa(4)-N3C)-Cl(mpzH)] (5), and [Ir(kappa(4)-N3C)Cl(dmpzH)] (6), as well as diiridium complexes [Ir-2(kappa(5)-N3C)-(mpz)(2)(CO)(H)(2)] (7) and [Ir-2(kappa(5)-N3C)-(dmpz)(2)(CO)(H)(2)] (8), were obtained upon treatment of dimer 2 with pyridine (py), 4-dimethylaminopyridine (dmap), 4-methylpyrazole (mpzH), and 3,5-dimethylpyrazole (dmpzH), respectively. These Ir(III) metal complexes were identified using spectroscopic methods and by X-ray crystallographic analysis of representative derivatives 3, 5, and 7. Their photophysical and electrochemical properties were investigated and confirmed by the theoretical simulations. Notably, green-emitting organic light-emitting diode (OLED) on the basis of Ir(III) complex 7 gives a maximum external quantum efficiency up to 25.1%. This result sheds light on the enormous potential of this tetradentate coordinated chelate in the development of highly efficient iridium complexes for OLED applications.

Herein, we report a graphene oxide (GO) catalyzed condensation of non-activated esters and amines, that can enable diverse amides to be synthesized from abundant ethyl esters forming only volatile alcohol as a by-product. GO accelerates ester to amide conversion in the absence of any additives, unlike other catalysts. A wide range of ester and amine substrates are screened to yield the respective amides in good to excellent yields. The improved catalytic activity can be ascribed to the oxygenated functionalities present on the graphene oxide surface which forms H-bonding with the reactants accelerating the reaction. Improved yields and a wide range of functional group tolerance are some of the important features of the developed protocol.
